Simon de Montfort V, to whom this portal is dedicated, was one of several medieval noblemen of that name.  Our Simon is usually identified as "Simon de Montfort V", although the numbering of Simons is uncertain at best.  The pages that are accessible from this page contain potted biographies of these Simons and of other members of the de Montfort family, knowledge of whom helps to flesh out Simon V's background and influence.
