William de Nangis

William de Nangis’ account of the Battle of Evesham is an important source predating some of the other chronicler accounts. Never before translated in its entirety, de Nangis’ account brings fresh perspective to some of the most perplexing questions surrounding the conduct of the battle, the death of Simon de Montfort and his son’s failure to prevent it. Tony Spicer and Rosemary Leamon have produced a readable and accessible translation of this pivotal passage in de Nangis’ history, illuminated by Tony Spicer’s lucid and engaging commentary.
